Channel Mechanics

Jack Roberts, Junior Software Engineer

Channel Mechanics delights today in announcing the appointment of Jack Roberts. Jack joins the team in the position of Junior Software Engineer.

Originally from Sligo, Jack began his academic journey in the field of Medicine, earning his Honors Degree from the University of Galway in 2017. Following a one-year internship between the Galway and Sligo University Hospitals, he packed his bags for Perth, Australia.

During this time, he assumed the role of Junior Doctor at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, and later St. John of God Subiaco Hospital. He spent three years in Australia, gaining experience in various medical and surgical fields. Missing the weather of the Atlantic coast, he returned to Galway University Hospital where he completed specialized training in Histopathology.

Despite finding Histopathology fascinating, Jack felt a pull in a different direction. So, he decided to take a dive into the world of software development, enrolling in a Postgraduate Diploma in Cloud Computing and Software Development at the University of Galway. Here, he has acquired a solid foundation in Java programming, Databases, and Computer Architecture, all while honing his problem-solving skills. Additionally, his coursework has exposed him to the intricacies of cloud computing, covering topics such as virtualization, scalability, and deploying applications in cloud environments.

Juggling this course with his ongoing Histopathology training was quite challenging, but the hard work was worth it. January 2024 marks a significant milestone for Jack, as he successfully begins an Internship with Channel Mechanics, marking a new chapter in his career.

Outside of the professional scene, Jack enjoys more relaxed activities. When weather permits, he enjoys hiking, and on rainy days he opts for catching up on his favorite TV shows and movies. He also takes the time to satisfy his travel bug. During his time in Australia, he explored Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and New Zealand, with the hope of adding more countries to his travel list soon.

Speaking about the appointment to his new role:

“I feel very lucky to have landed an Internship at Channel Mechanics. Everyone has been incredibly friendly and welcoming and it’s a privilege to be able to learn from a development team with such a wealth of talent and experience. This company has huge potential, and it will be an invaluable experience for me to be able to contribute to”

– Jack Roberts
