Damien McDonagh, Technical Architect - Squad Lead

Channel Mechanics delights today in announcing the promotion of Damien McDonagh to the position of Technical Architect – Squad Lead.

In July 2019, Damien joined the Channel Mechanics team as a Senior Software Developer, bringing his expertise to our development team. Throughout his tenure, he has played a vital role in multiple projects, leveraging his skills in C#, Azure, SQL Server, HTML, and API integrations to enhance the Channel Mechanics platform.

In May 2023, Damien was promoted to the position of Technical Architect Squad Lead for the Channel Mechanics Platform. He has been instrumental in architecting a new UI using Blazor, a modern web framework known for its interactive and dynamic capabilities. Additionally, he has been involved in building Microservices architectures in Azure, utilizing Azure Functions and Azure API Management to create a robust and scalable system.

Furthermore, as a Squad Lead, Damien takes charge of managing a team, coordinating activities, and fostering a collaborative work environment. His focus on effective communication will continue to ensure timely and successful project completion.

With over 15 years of experience in the IT & Technology sector, he has primarily focused on e-commerce and online sales/configuration tools. He kick-started his career with Nortel Networks after college, and since then, has gained a wealth of knowledge and expertise that he now brings to the team

Speaking about working in Channel Mechanics, Damien commented:

What drew my attention initially was having the chance to work on various projects to help the company grow and expand. I’m looking forward to seeing what direction the company will take in the future. In particular, I’m really excited to continue leading the development team as Channel Mechanics goes from strength to strength.”

In 2004, Damien graduated from Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT), earning a Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Building upon his foundation, he then pursued a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the University of Galway (formerly NUIG), completing his studies in 2006.

Outside of work, Damien is a DIY enthusiast and finds immense joy in taking on home projects. Recently, he has embarked on the exciting journey of beekeeping, currently tending to two hives. Additionally, Damien is a passionate sports fan, actively involved in coaching his sons’ soccer and Gaelic football teams. Despite his busy schedule, he also manages to find time for his love of music and staying fit through activities such as running, cycling, and swimming. In fact, he recently accomplished his first half marathon in Westport.
